technology blog

During the course of the project my team, team Jambert used technology throughout the entire project. Our proposal is a health website which is technology in its self. Our group kept in constant contact through email. The emailing really cut down on the number of full group meetings that were needed for the project. We seldom ever wrote anything on paper, we typed our minutes and proposal sections. I personally feel like without technology our proposal would not have been nearly as affective and it would have taken a lot more time.

blog for March 26

I have learned that a code of ethics is a vital part of a business. The code of ethics defines what the employer sees as the expected behavior for all employees, and also reduces the liabilities of management for unethical conduct by its employees. Personally I plan to abide by both my employer’s and my own ethical principles. I feel that in the business field I will make decisions that I will be proud to stand behind in the public eye.

blog for March 23

The first miscommunication that comes to my mind is with sports teams. It was a basketball game between the Lakers and the 76ers. The 76ers were down by 2 in the fourth quarter with about 8 seconds left in the game. During a time out the Lakers coach Phil Jackson stressed to his team that they had one foul to give. This means that the team can foul one more time before the 76ers would have to shoot free throws. After the timeout the Lakers small forward did not clearly understand coach’s message, he did not use the foul to give and allowed the 76ers to come down the court and hit a game winning 3 as time ran out in the game. I feel like the team or the small forward in particular should have paid more attention or asked for clarification if they did not understand. Also the coach could have told the players to repeat his message to assure that the clearly understood him.

2 part blog March 8th

My favorite presentation from the last day of presentations would be Jeremy’s tattoo thoughts. This is my favorite because I can relate to him through tattoos. I currently have 3 and I plan on getting at least 3 more. A lot of the tips he gave are some of the same things I think about when I’m going a new tat. In general body art is a great way to express who you are.

The only other experience I have with online portfolios is the one I did of my Architecture work freshman year. I used a little bit of photo shop along with Microsoft word, and then I uploaded it online. The experience I gained from my first portfolio was being able to bring together work from the whole semester and compile it into one presentation. In order to be ready for the portfolio due on March 23 I need to have my resume’ and files in order long before the due date, as well as stay well organized.

top presentations

The top presentation to me was the sugar glider. This was the best to me because a girl actually had one that we could see and touch if we wanted. That really sold the presentation because it was a complete surprise. The second presentation that I really liked was the top five worst pickup lines. What made this presentation stand out was that it was so funny. I could not believe the things guys have said to her. The third presentation that I liked was my own, but not because I’m conceded or anything. Doing my presentation I really realized how much I love Jordans. When I was working on my slides I got the itch to go buy a pair. In all, the presentations were good and I really enjoyed them.

Blog topic for the week of Feb. 15

No, I do not agree with everything the website said. The main point I do not agree with is that I should write a P.S or personal note in pencil on the bottom of my cover letter. A tip that I have found useful from the website was Third, and most important, many college students end up using the cover letter/resume mass mailing/e-mailing/posting as a crutch to convince themselves that they are actually doing something in their job search. “But I sent out over two hundred resumes!” In reality, all they are doing is generating rejection letters. Mass mailing/e-mailing/posting of your cover letter and resume has extremely low odds for success in today’s job market. I will use this advice by fine tuning my cover letter and resume for each specific job I am trying to obtain. Overall between the text book, class lectures, guest speakers, and the website I have a good overview for creating a resume and cover letter.

Blog topic for the week of February 8

I feel that this is a great project and can be informative as well as build skills that will be useful in the development of my education. My concerns for this project are being able to get through to the Clemson student body in a cost efficient way. We also have to make sure that we don’t break any laws in the process. Things are going smooth as far as the group is concerned. I probably will have questions about the project when our group goes a little deeper into the project.

interview mistakes

I feel that the article made some good points. Although I do not know if the mistakes are the top ten they still none the less serious mistakes. Many of them come from lack of preparation. I have had two interviews in the past. They both were very nerve wrecking! I did not ask many questions and I kept my answers short and to the point. The interviews seem to last forever even though they may have been 10 minutes each. I think that if I was a little more prepared for the interview I think it would have been a lot smoother and I might have been less nerve wrecking. Having an understanding of the typical interview questions may ease the tension of the interview.

Too Much Faith in Financial Markets as Far as the Recent Economic Problems

I feel that over time the US has put too much faith in the financial markets. The stock market seems to be the deciding factor in how a company is doing. Let me explain, companies with higher average stock prices are more profitable with less risk then those who have lower stock prices. I feel that the stock market is really a late tell sign for a struggling economy. The economy was already starting to collapse long before the effects were felt in the falling of the stock markets. The alarms for a falling economy should come from the main contribution to our economy which are the consumers. Also the reason why the stock market is a later tell sign then the consumer is because accountants and higher management try to make the company look as profitable as legally possible to keep the stock price high for the firm. This is done instead of pointing out key industry problems that could hurt stock prices but potentially save the economy. As a future financial manager I plan to keep this in mind so that I can do my part to make sure our country does not go through this economic slump again.

Ten years from now.....

Ten years from today seems like such a long way from now, but it would be a great measuring stick for where I am as far as my career and life. Ten years from now I plan to be a financial manager for the Bank of America Corp. Farther down the road I would like to be a chief financial officer (CFO) of a major company. I plan to accomplish this goal by obtaining my degree in financial management from Clemson as well as a possible internship at Bank of America. I plan to live in Charlotte North Carolina right outside of the city with a wife and two children. In my free time I would like to travel with my family as well as attend Carolina Panther (NFL) games and Charlotte Bobcats (NBA) basketball games. I would like to live comfortable lifestyle while being a contributing member of society.

blog for Jan 11th

I think the title of the video The Machine is Us/ing Us means that web 2.0 was created by and tuned to fit the needs of its users, us or people in today’s society. As our usage of web 2.0 for the search and storage of information as well as communication and other functions increases, the strength and powers of the web also increases. This can be interpreted as the machine using us while still being created by us. Web 2.0 may affect someone entering into the workforce in both a positive and negative way. The positives are wide span job searches, easier to apply and send resumes to potential employers, and information can be obtained about the history and past major transaction of the potential employers. The negatives are more intense job competition, with less formal communication between employers and applicants. This is the same for people already in the workforce; they have increased opportunities for career changes, but are venerable to the access of some many potential employees with a similar skill set as their own. The statement we will have to rethink everything means that web 2.0 is now such an essential to our lives that we must now began to rethink and restructure the other aspects of our life as well as the way we interact and communicate with others.
